Sadly some of the most enjoyable music from Bali tends to get overlooked. Genjek is the ancient "folk music" of Bali and is performed at gatherings in rural Bali. It is unaccompanied and the voices of the men who are skilled in this art echo with same percussion as drums. Being quite unique in the World it is a dying art and usually missed by conventional tourists. However, in the villages it is still the number one performance for parties and Saturday night with the family entertainment. Seek it out if you want to listen to something really different and very entertaining but bring some Tuak to oil the throats of the singers....it's part of the performance. Hope you like it...we do and often have a gathering of village folk who sing their hearts out for us up here in the north of the island.
