We went last year, also for about the 12th time but first with our 10m old and we had a back pack carrier (on a frame) and that was pretty good cos although i used a sarong here and there he was pretty heavy and it was good to have the carrier for my husband to use- he could even fall asleep in it. We used the stroller a fair bit too- i think it is worth having.
Another thing that would have been good to have is a booster seat as alot of the restaurants did not have highchairs or boosters and that was a real pain. And the Heinz "sticky fingers" wipes were indispensible. We took baby food but there were so many wonderful and appropriate things to eat that it was a waste of time. Little packaged snacky things would be handy tho- for in between meals when you might not be near food. I took some tea tree oil in case of insect bites but we never got any. We didn't take many toys as I heard Matahari was the go but it was absolute crap for his age so a few toys could be handy.
The best best thing i have used for entertainment on the plane is those little boxes of sultanas (when he was bout your childs age) they were great for take off and landing when he was cranky about being restrained. They fascinated him no end- even if he didn't necessarily eat them he had fun getting them out and playing with them. Good Luck, we had the best fun!
