What did I find wrong with the hotel? Just little niggling things that add up.

The first room we had was close to the reception area, where they have live entertainment. The entertainment was loud and very, very bad. Impossible to escape, and impossible to ignore. We moved to another room as far away from reception as we could get.

The second room was on the tatty side, with a grubby fridge (I don't think the room had been done up yet). From there we could still hear the entertainment at reception - only now we could hear the poolside evening entertainment as well.

One evening we'd promised our daughter a moonlight dip in the pool (around 8pm - not that late!). We jumped in, and were promptly kicked out.

One of the reasons we chose the hotel was the kids club - another disappointment. When we went to check it out, it was deserted. It took about 20 minutes to find someone to attend to us. No kids and no supervision - needless to say, we never used it.

The other thing is that the Ramada Bintang is a large resort, and we much prefer a smaller property.

In its favour, the poolside massages are fantastic and reasonably priced. The garden is pretty, and the hotel is in a reasonably quiet part of Tuban. Breakfasts are good, and so is the beach- plus you're only about a five minute walk away from Ma Joly restaurant (on the beach at the Sandi Phala), which was just sensational.

Hope this helps.
