We tip all the time for good service and sometimes mediorce service. 5,000 rp whats that 70cents aus? what about really going overboard 10,000 rp - $1.40 gee, nothing to us but an awful lot to the balinese staff who work wretched hours and often 7 days a week!!
Service charge added to the bill?, I don't really believe that the staff actually get it !! we're talking Bali here!!! - I might have been born at night, but it wasn't last night!!.
At restaurants we always leave the tip discreetly hidden in a folded serveitte and let the wait staff know, boy you should see how cool calm and collected they act clearing your table !!!!
If you hire motorscooters and ride like we do, those 'Pakir' guys at the scooter parking areas, will look after your shopping and helmets etc, and pull your bike out, dust it off with a rag...if you tip when you arrive (we usually make it 20,000 rp) and they almost fall over waving to you everytime you ride pass there after !!.
Remeber that what you do is inject money into the village economy at a very low socio-economic level.
You really do make a difference - to put into perspective what can you buy a home for 70cents - or even $1.40 ?????
More importantly one sleep to go !!! will be back to our beloved Bali on Saturday night for 10 days - yipeee
