Accomadation in Bali

I would like to get some feedback regarding accomadation in Bali,I like everyone have booked some cheap airfares for family holiday with Jetstar. We are a family with 3 adults and 1x12 yo child.
We are looking for some 3 star accomadation in the Legian/Kuta area that is clean and safe.
I have been told that you can save some money by going to the motel direct, is that true?
I am sure this will be a hot topic for all with the deals that are out with Jetstar.
