.. in April this year & enjoyed it hugely. Hubby had been there before surfing & he went back for another few weeks after I came home. Very much a sleepy-hollow - cows browsing along & on the roads - very laid back - a holiday from the holiday.
Lots of good budget places to stay - our hotel was dirt cheap - aircon, great pool, pleasant staff.
Best place to eat in Kuta is ASHTARI - turn right at Kuta Indah, go up the hill and the very lovely WA lady Helen has a restaurant with spectacular views, very cool ambience & cheap, but excellent quality veg food. A must. We ate there daily. Wasn't open for dinner but may well be by now. (Need a car or motor bike to get there).
One day when hubby went surfing he arranged with a boat guy for me to fish while he was surfing - the boat guy provided lines & bait for no cost (altho I did pay him, of course). Didn't catch anything tho :( - heavy rain the night before.
The twice weekly markets in Kuta are just great if you're a foodie.
Kuta, Lombok is like Kuta, Bali decades ago. Fly there - taking the ferry is just horrid. If you know where you want to stay, take a blue taxi from the airport - fixed price & no hassles.
