Did lots of shopping. The younger girls loved the Body & Soul clearance sale at Seminyak. Shopped a lot in Double Six for sarongs, scarves, beads, wallets, shoes and bags. Had clothing made at Leon Tailors (John) in the gang next to Four Seasons Hotel. Had leather boots made at Mira leather shop Jl Utara Padma Rp400,000 a pair, also had a really nice leather bag made for 350,000.

Had quilt covers made at St Isidor 450,000 including 2 pillow cases. Also got mozzie nets (205,000 including 4 rope ties with shells or wooden baubles) and pouffe covers with calico inserts (130,000) from Eric in Double Six (can't remember name of the shop but it's about 50-100m down on the right heading from Jl Raya Seminyak).

Got new reading glasses from Optik Tunggal in Discovery Mall (1,138,000). Had jewellery made at First Jewelry at the Bali Hai Hotel - cost 900,000 (about AUD$130) for the following: 1 yellow and white gold diamond ring made with my own gold and diamond, 1 ring downsized, 1 ring repaired, and a gold bangle made with all my old broken jewellery. Really happy with the work. They also returned the gold they didn't use - very honest and reliable.

Bought lots of DVD's from a shop in Denpasar and a few more from Legian. Bought Martha Tilaar products from Ramayana Bali Mall, Denpasar - cost about AUD$18 for moisture cream, toner, mask, and moisture gel. Wish I'd bought more as I really like the products.
Loved the treatments at Melasti Spa - massage, pedicure, and facials (they also use Martha Tilaar products).

Went to Geneva but didn't buy much. Found they had lots of junky stuff (I think I was over shopping by the time I went there on my 2nd last day).

Found a place to buy imported wines much cheaper than the supermarkets on Sanur Bypass just before Makro. It's a wholesale distributor (unmarked from the street) but they also allow you to buy wine by the bottle.

Also bought a day bed from Pelack on Jl Bypass Ngura Rai with the help of Bagus Antara, a buying agent who also arranges shipment back to Australia. I found Bagus to be really helpful and a very nice guy who speaks excellent English. My friend also ordered a door to be made for her new house. The furniture from Pelack is made from recycled timber which is apparently less likely to shrink and crack in our climate.

Overall found most of the shops and market stalls doing it tough. There doesn't seem to be enough tourists around to keep them all in business, so they were pretty desperate to get you in to their shop. Shame that most of the market stalls sell exactly the same thing.

I found this forum really helpful for tips on where to shop etc. so I hope some of this info will be helpful to others.

More to come soon.
