Depending upon which bank you try in Bali it is possible(but frustrating) for a westerner on holidays to open an account. Disadvantages are the frustration caused trying to find the right branch. You may be lucky first attempt. Advantages are the interest rates. With BCA I am currently getting 9.5% interest. The government takes 20% of this, so in reality I am getting a 7.6% return. This money can be invested on a month by month basis. If you only plan to stay in Bali for a short time and maybe never return it would not be worth your time or the effort trying to open an account.Remember that early this year a women working for a local bank promised investors 12% and then ran away with the funds.
