Went over New Year and Jan this year and was warm and rained but usually heavy downpour then all over. Generally do go in January most times and haven't had problems. Was busy over New Year with domestic tourists which meant more traffic - a bit hectic so walked when I could or went on back of bikes to get through traffic quicker. Have just arrived back last week from 2nd trip this year and weather much cooler,a bit quiet in some ways I guess, but I felt completely safe there the whole time.
