Absolutely sensational.......
here is part of my JBR on the degustation menu back in June this year.......
Went to dinner at Aurora and met with Garfield, the head chef from the US, who initially was having the evening off. We enjoyed a couple of daiquiri's and a Corona whilst chatting about all things Bali at the groovy lounge bar of the restaurant.
Sat down for dinner joined by Garfield and embarked on the 'degustation menu' which ended up being ten courses of mouth watering delights:
Stuffed Mushroom with pomegranate sauce 9/10
Lightly grilled Scallop with spinach 10/10
Marinated octopus with chorizo 10/10
Beef Carpaccio with a deep fried parmesan basket (would you believe it - the beef is from the south west of Western Australia - Harvey Beef - can't go wrong!) 12/10
Oyster gratin x 2 (oysters flown in from the USA)15/10
Mushroom cappacino (amazing!) warm mousse of portabello mushrooms with frothed milk ... bizarre to look at (served in an espresso cup) sensational flavour 18/10
Mahi Mahi with prosciutto - grilled small fillet wrapped in crispy prosciutto served with beans 10/10
Fettucine Carbonara - home made pasta served wrapped around a fork - delicious 12/10
Veal Chop (from Holland) - served with mashed potato and peas - really getting full at this stage and struggling to eat another mouthful...... the veal was very tender and the jus was morish 15/10
AND then three deserts served together on a square platter each.....
Warm chocolate soufflé made with French chocolate
A teaspoon of crème brulee and
A basket filled with fresh berry fruit
All of this for 300,000 Rp per person ... unbelievable.... (Advice ... DO NOT eat lunch if you're planning to feast on the degustation!)
Daniel, the head waiter, who served and remembered us from our last visit was again on top of his game, decanting the two bottles of French red's and getting flogged by Garfield whenever he got something wrong ... sometimes it's not cool for the head chef to be sitting at the same table as your customers! Ha.
The quality of the food, the innovative menu and superb service leaves you in no doubt why Aurora has recently won the best new restaurant in Bali award this year!
Garfield is no doubt a perfectionist and has set an exceptional culinary standard; we eat out frequently at various restaurants and from Sydney to Perth there is no equal!
Do yourself a favour ... just eat there once ... but be warned it won't be your last ...
There is also the roof top restaurant upstairs which offers a cheaper tapas-style menu and the big screen is fired up for the World Cup matches.
Aurora is only open for dinner at the moment.
