was in around 1987 - I was 21 years old and a girlfriend and myself from country Victoria headed off. What a trip we had. We really expected something totally different to what Bali actually was at the time. We had never travelled anywhere before - from memory i think NSW was the furthest we had been. I remember stepping off the plane (back in the days when you walked across the tarmac in 38deg heat) then into an unairconditioned area with huge queues, sweat running off us - dressed totally wrong for the heat and humidity. Boy did we wonder what we were in for. Then off in a bemo with all the frantic bip bip, weaving in and out of traffic etc and oh the smells of bali! I can remember it was like was yesterday. We did all the 1st timer things, plait your hair, many massages, much shopping - mainly total rubbish that we paid way too much for, drinking drinks at the nightclubs with ice which was a big nono and me ending up with bali belly big time, sunburn - after smothering on reef oil and laying out to be burnt to a crisp. If only we were as wise as we are now. All in all we had an absolutely fantastic trip - made heaps of friends from all over the world - and a group of "pommie blokes" actually called us a couple of months later and came to stay for a couple of weeks with our families. That was when my love of Bali started - i have been back about 10 times since now we travel as a family and my 10yo who has been 4-5 times is always asking "when can we go again?" I love the people, the sights and sounds, the whole package. WE have been to thailand, malaysia, fiji and had a few trips to queensland but Bali is my all time favourite. I cant wait to go back again - we were there in June and it feels like it was a year ago. Memories !!!!!
