From Ubud take the Rendang road to Amplapura is very scenic with great rice terracing and from there you can go back along the coast road to Candi Dasa. From Candi Dasa take the coastal route to Lovina and stop of at Tertagganga and take a refreshing swim at the old royal palace natural spring water pools. From there head to Tulumben and if you like snorkeling stop there to snorkel the ship wreck. From Tulumben then head to Lovina and if you like water falls stop at the village of Les.
There is no volcano in the north west. The volcano is in the north east. Was there just the other day trekking thro Mount Batur with my kids. When you get a guide for this make sure you let him know you want to trek to the various places on the top of Mount Batur, as it has many different areas along the ridge to visit, otherwise the guides are lazy and just take you to the summit and back down the same route.
For me the most spectacular trekking is just east of Singaraja off the Jagaraga road. There is a village called Lemukih and the water falls there are just stunning and the walk to them is also fantastic, thro mixed farm land with views all the way down to the ocean. If you would like to see some photos of these please email me and i will send you a link.
