My daughter has not had her hair platted on the two occasions we have taken her. She has red hair and fair skin to go with it and I was concerned about sunburn. I persuaded her that the braids would not be a good idea. What my daughter does it look forward to having her nails painted and we do this upon arrival and also just before we leave.

I initially felt bad because all of her friends at school always come back with their hair plaited but after I saw more than one child with tears in their eyes whilst having it done, all guilt was gone. I also saw many sunburnt scalps around our resort and parents taking out the plaits; which can also hurt.

I acknowledge it is each to their own with fashion but I have only seen Aussies with this look. (??)

I don't know how you feel about medication but the beautician I use suggests taking a couple of panadol to ease the pain of waxing; perhaps you could consider this to take the "edge" off. As I said this would depend upon your approach to medication.
