Ah Waitangi Bill. I remember him well. Bill Ellis was his name and he believed passionately in what he said. I learnt much from Bill about a culture that was not my culture. And he helped me practice my debating skills regularly. Sadly Bill is no longer with us.
GS was a man I learnt a lot from too. I always enjoyed following on from his shift. One of the finest broadcasters it has ever been my pleasure to meet. I was always absolutely astounded at his ability to quote poetry and prose at the drop of a turn of phrase. (I only met the War Department on a couple of occasions such as Christmas parties) I don't know where G is these days. Retired certainly - and I hope he is enjoying life in Auckland somewhere.
I'm not too sure who I am - certainly not the skinny bloke that used to sit under that Sennheiser headset through the night ... but as Mrs Pieboy said in a post the other night, the initials of PieBoy have a close relationship with the initials of my real name.
Cheers
Pieboy
