There are any number of cheap, good places in these 2 narrow streets. If you arrive during the day, just park one of you & your bags in a restaurant in either Poppies and go scouting - take it in turns.
Walk-in prices are negotiable. If you're arriving at night tho it'd be a good idea to book a hotel before, even if only for one night. An impecunious surfer we met stayed in Palm Garden, I think, in Poppies 2 and said it was fine & very cheap. Also Jalan Benasari (runs off Poppies 2 to the left, facing Jl Legian) has heaps of budget accommodation.
Lots of good cheap places in Legian/Seminyak, too.
Just pop into hotels as you pass by & ask:)
