I think the red cordial has a neutralising effect, not sure exactly why. I took it on my first trip along with someother "sodium potash" or something which was meant to also help to wash fruit etc before eating.

However I have been six times and havent bothered with the above since my first trip, I usually buy loads of bottled water and use this for brushing teeth etc as well. As I think this is a major cause. I normally feel a little uncomfortable for a few days just due to the increase in fruit in my diet and possibly dehydration from the trip, but this soon passes. So touch wood - I have been very lucky.

Friends and family have suffered with it when in Bali. My aunty was recommended to drink some stuff that is available in all warungs that has a rhino on the label - not sure if it was a coincidence or not but she felt much better afterwards. I also bought tummy tablets in bali for my mother in law while we were there, as they have lots of medicinal things very cheap in their apoteks. I have heard that other people on this forum take "inner health" type tablets away with them, and you can even buy the yakult type drinks over there.

hope this helps
