Our family was also in Bali in 2002 and got out a week before the first bombing. We continue to go each christmas for 3-4 weeks, much to our families disappointment. Last year after the oct bombing we lost 4 adult air fares (kids were 13 & 15) with air paradise, so we actually paid twice to go. Hubby even through job in when he was unable to get holidays (he has NEVER been unemployed) that is how important our family holiday in bali was to our family. Each year we seem to take friends who are first timers and they have already booked again for this Christmas, they have 16yo & 18yo. 66 aussies died on our roads at Christmas last year, we will never hear about that again. I think my kids are safer in Bali with us than being on a tight rein on the Gold Coast. However, each family has to make the best decision for their family. My hubby said we weren't going after the Oct 2002 bombing, however after the bombing and after the collapse of air paradise (and before hubby had resigned)as a family we sat down and listed all the pros and cons. Let's say bali is in our blood and we decided we needed to get off the crazy roads on the Gold Coast Christmas roads!! We advised our families that if anything happened we had made an informed decision and we really wanted to be in Bali, we paid 8 air fares to get there!!!! Good luck we will be there this Chrissy for 3-4 weeks.
