The value of the Indonesian rupiah is not really altered by the number of tourists coming to Bali. Internal factors control the matter. The lower number of tourists in Bali does not have a direct effect upon the Indonesian government. It does however worry the Balinese business community. There are many asset rich but cash poor people here.(there are also many VERY poor people) Currently land is for sale at very cheap prices. The down turn in tourism combined with the rise in fuel and the rising cost of ceremonies is now hurting the wealthier Balinese families as well as the poorer folk.
