I can whole heartedly recommend The Jepun at Tembok, which is about an hour north of Amed and on your way to Lovina. Very gorgeous rooms and architecture (easily four star), lovely staff, good restaurant in a friendly village, fantastically quiet with a magnificent beach front. The entrance is stunning, as is the beachfront razor-edged pool. Not expensive if you're prepared to haggle respectfully! I'd book a couple of nights there as once you get there, it's hard to leave and there are things to see in the area if you can tear yourself away from the view.
Just google jepun bali resort and go to their (not a travel agent's) website.
Another place you could stop off that we adore is the quirky little Sanda Butik built on its own coffee plantation - it's inland on the other side of the mountains - a beautifully scenic route. You can read a review of Sanda at three Ws slash i-escapedotcom. Lots of nice photos too.
