Thanks for all the replies and info. To clarify I am flying in from Japan, but am not on a package tour. I will have US$ with me to pay for the Visa (I'm American). Would it be best to exchange my money at the airport? I'm planning to book a hotel that will pick me up from the airport, and then go from there, I'm trying to take the wait and see approach rather than have a structured trip. I can't decide if I want to get SCUBA certification, ride elephants, etc., or just be a beach bum. Again, any more advice is much appreciated.
