Don't put too much faith in at least one bad report. We heard the other side of the story from the staff when we were there.
The hotel was only 30% full when we were there and the usually good service was amazing with people falling over themselves to do little things for you. One of the great things about this place is the 'part-of-the-family' atmosphere you get drawn into. 80% of the staff have been at the hotel for more than 10 years and this really helps things go like clockwork. If you ask one of the staff for something different they seen to know already what the official answer should be. I guess they have been asked just about everything over the years and know management attitudes to things.
The buy one get one free or half price happy hours at the pool bar are back on again but the theme dinners around the pool have been discontinued until numbers pick up. This was the one disappointment for us as we love the Bali night with the dance and the Mongolian night.
Staff are hoping that things will pick up in the coming Aussie school holidays and we hope they do to. No staff have been retrenched since the bomb but many are on reduced hours. Never the less the happy, family atmosphere that you probably remember remains.
I'm sure you'll have a great holiday.
