and be aware of the "source" of the warnings. There are some lovely rumours going around, with very little proof to back them up (along the lines of a friend's brother's boss, sort of thing). Yes, there are corrupt police, yes there are criminals, as there are everywhere. Be as aware of your belongings and your person as you would in a major city anywhere in the world and you should be OK. Lock all your baggage while travelling. Know where your carry on bags are at airports and only leave them with people you know.
When in Bali, lock up your passport, tickets and extra money and only carry what you think you will need for the time you are out of your hotel. With this in mind, you will have a great trip.
