apologise, regular travellers to Bali all know how corrupt the police are...(Even if they don't want to admit it)..There has been heaps of JBR's that support this with stories of bribes etc.. We just try to stay out of their way where possible and be polite otherwise.
Drivers often just get pulled over for cigarette money (as they call it)....
I hope we never have an incident that we need the police involved, but to talk to in the street we have never had a problem.
And when travelling we always take precaution and becareful with luggage no matter where we travel to.
