I had a similar expreience in October, and I was also staying at the MBR. We went to Kuta Galleria and Mataharis had a huge sale on. I just kept buying and buying, as did the friend I was with. She didn't have much cash so I said: "Don't worry, just put it all on my credit card and you can pay me back when we go back to work". Famous last words.. somewhere amidst the frenzy of shopping I remembered that I'd taken my credit card out of my purse and put it in the safe at the hotel. So over to the cashiers.. very red faced, to own up. We'd put aside a mountain of stuff and when I explained what I'd done everyone had a good laugh. Off we raced, jumped into a taxi and back to MBR, grabbed the card and back we headed. That taxi driver probably thought it was xams too. It was very quiet at that time as it was only 3 weeks after the bombs, so with a nice big tip for him he probably had a better day than he'd had for a while. His smile looked like he had.
