I have very high acid(skin content) and anything that is 'gold plated/dipped' etc lasts about 2 weeks and i have stripped the gold completely off!!!
I have never had this problem with $2coin bangles, my arm sometimes will get a green mark (but regular showers fix this lol).
I clean mine every couple of months as it tend to dull rather than discolor.
The Balinese can not cash in the $2 coins for Ruphia (hence the guys at the airport) so they make jewellery from it.
