Even with land & house deals in Australia you need to go into the deal with your eyes fully open & know from the beginning where you stand- you should have proper financial & legal advice from day 1.
IF it was me considering what you are- I would be talking to people like David & Moira or Kerry & Milton & other expats who as fellow Aussies have had some experience & 1st hand knowledge in these type of matters. Then & only then IF you were happy with what they said I would be getting legal advice from THE absolute best person in this field I could find in Bali. Please make sure you look into this fully & with your eyes open.I don't apologise for saying that way too many people go into real estate investments even here in Australia with their hearts & NOT their heads. You need to think is what YOU are after is long term capital gain OR a lifestyle choice ? There is a huge LOT of difference in the 2.
I would also suggest that The Bali Expat forum is probably a better site to look further into this matter.Personally we have been tempted quite a number of times into buying a place in Bali but being the sort of cautious people we are re any business matters we decided against it & have invested in more properties back in Oz.Who knows IF we have made the right choice ?
I know many people HAVE been happy with their decisions to buy or build in Bali So I am not fully against it - just saying look into the matter carefully - BUT if you do decide to go for it I think it needs to looked at initially as a lifestyle choice & NOT a financial investment in your future.
I also know just as many people who have had their hearts broken & lost everything re Bali properties. We have heard too many horror stories of things gone wrong ever to seriously invest in property in Bali ourselves - even keeping in mind we have a very close Expat friend we have known very well for a long time & who we trust & would be able to oversee absolutely everything for us.
I wish you well IF you do decide to go ahead & buy a place but try to think with your head as well as your heart .Okay - off my soapbox & preaching re financial stuff now <VBG>
