I just got back from Thailand and booked and paid on a Tuesday for travel on the Saturday (same week). This was a package thru Qantas. Mine was a last minute thing but why do Garuda want payment so quickly. I think I'd be a bit worried. Hold off for as long as you can. Ask your travel agent about using the Visa Card, see if they can guarantee you getting a refund if anything happens. (worth a try)
For all you who are travelling with Garuda, I HOPE so much everything is ok.
