You could do as we do - use Bluebirds around Kuta/Legian and your rental car for going further afield. It's such a nightmare driving in the crowded maze there. It can be a hassle driving around the island, too, because signposts are lacking and maps often don't show places that are signposted. Use your horn and keep a good sense of humour - and allow plenty of time to get where you're going. A wrong turn just might lead you to a delightful vista. And stop and ask if you feel lost (something men just hate doing, for some reason).
