same as anywhere, it depends on location, then the usuals.
Land is the major cost, not so much the house,
I'm not upto date with current prices, but a while back, land in the Kerobokan area was in excess of Rp.100,000,000 / are,
while you can find land for Rp.10,000,000 in outer areas... and
I know of beautiful land down from Munduk, that's going for a song
I'd suggest you rent a Villa for a while, spend a bit of time there, and have a good look around, and also decide if you wanna buy a small house that's gonna cost a fortune to renovate to your specs, or what I'd recommend, build a retreat yourself, If you're going to have a house in Bali, make it a good one first time round.
Other option is to take a long term contract,
you might find this will work out better, we took a 20 year lease on our Villa in Kerobokan, still got 11 years to go.....
