A company called Novartis claims to have good treatments for this. If you type novartis fungal nail infection into Google you may find something of interest. My belief is that, like so many health problems, an underlying cause may be dietary deficiency. I'll try to locate some more info on this.

Probably the most common fungal disease is candidiasis and the usual symptom of this is thrush. This condition often goes almost unnoticed or is considered just a minor inconvenience. If any treatment is undertaken, it's usually directed at the symptoms rather than at the cause[s]. Candidiasis can become systemic [ie go right through the body] and be associated with many apparently unrelated health problems. I don't think that candida can be ruled out as possibly related to nail rot.
