I researched my trip carefully before I started my plans. With the encouragement of Filo, Bali Hai, and others I booked the Bali Hai Hotel in Tuban. It wasn't easy. The packager I wanted to use didn't represent the Bali Hai. I encouraged them to contact the hotel and now they do and they got to book my trip. (Escapes Unlimited out of the Los Angeles area) I took 5 days here, booked the Tegal Sari in Ubed directly, and the Hotel Sanur Beach from AsiaRooms.com. I left 3 days open to choose at the end of my trip where I would like to be. We got here one day late due to diverting to Japan. When I showed a day late at the Bali Hai nothing was ever said about the missed day. I didn't bring it up. Before leaving I read a negative post about the Bali Hai going down hill and the management being unresponsive to their complaints. I was wondering if I had done the right thing by picking them. It turns out that I did. The 4 days we spent here were gteat. The beach and the ocean are clean and attractive. The pool and buffet staff are friendly, efficient, clean and fun to talk to. The buffet is good. I'm not much of a meat eater, but have noticed that they had steaks the two mornings. My wife loved the mie goring and all the steam table stuff. For me the fresh fruits were well selected as to quality and type. They have had whole sala, rambutan, Bananas, mangosteen , oranges, etc and all kinds of cut fruit and salad stuff every morning. The Hotel Sanur Beach was poor in comparison. They had the same cut fruits, but of poor quality, and the food was warm when it should have been hot and should have been cold. I did not trust their hygiene and I'm not really hard to please. We never said anything, but ate breakfast at Anita's Warung instead. Any place that puts fried baloney on their buffet and calls it meatloaf is from or should be shipped to another planet. The staff was predatory and Sanur itself seemed for the unadventurous and immobile. The grounds of the hotel were very nice. I won't be going back to Sanur or the Hotel Sanur Beach. On the other hand, the Rat and I decided we were very happy to return to the Bali Hai. We will be staying here again at the start and the finish of next years trip. In fact when we were to return last Friday, I let my wife go on alone, rebooked my flight and am still at the Bali Hai. Everyone has been fun, attentive to whatever small problems that have occurred (typical Bali Plumbing, ie slow drains, etc) and quick to correct them. I would like to single out Mr Wid of the pool staff, Mr Made of the front desk, Ngurah at the desk, and a trainee named Agus for going the extra mile to be sure we enjoyed our stay. This place is clean, well-situated, well run and a ton of fun. We will start and end our future Bali trips here, go to someplace new, and return to the Tegal Sari in Ubud which is in a class of it's own. I'll write more about the Tegal Sari later, but I'm down to my last 48 hours and don't want to waste them on the computer. I guess you can't please some people. Negatives do not apply to the Bali Hai.
