Sanur in October and without the Europeans, Sanur would have been a ghost town. Lipah was much the same when we were there in August 2004. And, as we all know, it's not a European custom to be overdressed on the beach.

I think that most of us expect to holiday in places where dress requirements are no more restrictive than they are in our home countries. I know I do. I hope that the Indonesian president, who seems to be a sensible guy, gets the hardliners on one side and explains a few things to them.

BTW, the Indonesian version of Playboy is being published now or soon. We're told that it's nowhere near as racy as other versions, but it's still getting opposition from some quarters. Similar to the Miss Indonesia [and similar] contests. Opposed by the hard liners, but they still go ahead.
