Stayed at Garden View in Sept '05 The staff are fantastic, service is excellent, food is acceptable & cheap and the location is convenient. The rooms are tired although they are renovating and building new rooms. But we greatly disliked eating brekky at 7.30 am having to look at beer-bellied late middle-aged men wearing only shorts with stomachs hanging over, drinking beer at that early time in the restaurant. It's that sort of place.
Stayed there a few years previously - just the same. Garden View is very popular and there are lots of people who enjoy the ambience there, obviously. Just didn't suit us. The guests were mainly middle aged. If you're younger and on your own there are plenty of other budget hotels in that area that may suit you better. Try searching for directrooms-Indonesia on google & do a search on this forum for hotels:)
