was in 2000 and I was turning 40. I was spending a month in Bali with my daughter and my husband was there for the week of my birthday. I didn't expect anything special as the trip was my present. However on the night of my birthday we set off to Uncle Norms for dinner. To my utter surprise the place was decked out with party gear and the friends we made from the hotel intan were waiting. Norm had manged to get a beautiful birthday cake decorated with iced roses and heaps candles. I don't know how he did this because back then there were hardly any bakeries. The night was one I will never forget simply because so many people who only new me for a short time made a huge effort to make my birthday special. I might add apart from Norm & the staff most of those people were from the west coast (we are from the east coast). Anyway it will always stay with me, along with the wonderful memory of my first arrival in Bali in the early 1990s where I thought we landed in a cow paddack. cheers Kerry
