Don't have much time to get to the computer, but having the trip of my life. The Tegal Sari was a new experience for me. It was so spectacular that I have already booked and paid for 8 nights in February, 2007. It is a hard place to get into and is the most peaceful and helpfull place that I have ever stayed. There is no bar, no happy hour, the brekky is tasty, but small. By booking so far in advance I was able to get my choice of rooms. It is the bungalo on the end and upstairs. It has a twin bed on the balcony where I can nude sun bathe and have a view in two directions. Extreme privacy, service and they are run more like a hobby than a business. Laundry, moneyu exchange and and mini bar items are all at street prices and when I have more time I'll tell you what I learned about service. All the hotels in Bali where we have stayed provide great service, but that place taught me a new concept. The place and the surroundings are spectacular. The new rooms have a tub you can do a 360 degree turn in. The view from the rooms of the rice fields is not only great, but is like watching a documentry film of rice farming. The parade of the ducks, the working of the fields and the ongoing changes in the fields from day to day is great to watch. There are two restaurants within 200 meters that are two of the best places I have eaten in worldwide. The Nuriani is hearty (the sambal gorang tahu tempe is world class) and ruthrat and I order two big boy Bintangs and four courses, maybe the tahu tempe, gado gado, the nasi campur and perhaps the chicken sate; they are happy to make some fresh Balinese sambal #3 and you still haven't spent 100,000 rupiah. The place is open with views of the rice fields and the guy with the flagged stick leading the ducks home. You see the mountains off in the distance and the breeze blows through. Sound good yet? The Barandi down the street is more upscale, but we got out for 200,000 rupiah. A more refined nasi campur, sate, the seabass and the rat ordered the veggie, pesto fettucini. All was great, three large Bintangs for the price of two, and still only 200k rupiah. It has a garden setting ( very nice, but not as spectacular as the Nuriani). Ubud turned out to be the Bali of my dreams. The morning wals through Tegallanang, Junjungung, and Badya were fabulous. Even the dogs weren't too bad. Reflexology at the Sara for 28k rupiah before 1 pm. and 35k after. A great traditional setting and the best and cheapest I have ever had. It is somethig I do everyday in Bali and I know good from bad. I suggest asking for Ketut. After the first session I made a standing appointment for my final 4 days in Bali him to take care of me. We got to Sanur yesterday and for a beach lover the Hotel Sanur Beach is dandy. The Rat went off to Denpasar this am. in a bemo to buy some silk that Janoko tailors in Kuta are going to make into silk boxer shorts for me. Life is good. I'm still keeping the journal, which turned out to be great idea. It makes me relive my days and keep it all straight. It is up over 100 pages and counting. I going to take a nap and head back to the beach. More later, I'm having the best trip of my life and so is my wife. We spend most of our days doing different things and try to relate them to each other at dinner. Enough, jingles
