No sure where you are travelling from, however if from Australia you should get a return ticket inc. taxes under $1k depending on what time of year you want to travel.
A tip I picked up on the forumis , go to zuji.com and type in you travel details. Print off the quote and then take it to flight centre and they will beat it.
Don't work about accom, just fly there get a airport taxi to Kuta the counter is right of the exit as you walk out of the terminal. Tell them to take you to the Barong Hotel and try the walk up rates if not just walk around you get much better deals as a walk up rate if you are single rather than booking through a travel agent. Just take a map with the hotels you are interesed in and go for a walk.
I used to always do this now I just do the above staight to the hotel I like near Legian.
