I can share their thoughts & your sense of responsibility as I was in the same boat when I first went to Bali after the Jakarta bombing.
I still feel the same reservation as I do with my next trip as I am taking my son.. but I allowed him an informed choice on whether he wanted to ahead as it was initially a surprise gift for his 18th.
I am bombarded continuously on what a idiot I must be on wanting to go back to Bali. Mostly from those who have never been I might add.
I think your family will go on the trip and wonder what the hell they were so worried about cos thats what happened to me. At the same time you cant force folk to go....... or even if they get there and feel soooooooo unhappy or unsafe for what ever reason ...the answer is to pay to go back home. No ones "bound in chains" to stay in the Tourist sense.
How do they know about the concern of hotel choice ?? I must be missing something ?
