Lombok is malarial

The official line is the Lombok (including the Gilis) is a malarial zone. Everywhere in Indonesia is considered malarial except Bali and Java. This means that you are recommended to take anti-malarial tablets.

Of course, this doesn't mean that everyone will - lots of people take the risk when they are only visiting for a few days from Bali (I admit to this myself) and lots of people are very against taking the drugs in the first place. But just because people say that they didn't take them and didn't catch malaria doesn't mean that you shouldn't take anti-malarials. It should be a personal decision, because it is a pretty important one.

As for hepatitis, you should have a Hep A vaccination wherever you travel in Asia. Hep B is advised if there is any chance that you might sleep with someone whilst you are out there. Lombok is no different from anywhere else in SE Asia in this sense.
