to bali last september, had free tickets to bali, so used them to hop over to thailand. Stayed at MBK in Bangkok, and I have to say even though it was a hotel on TOP of a shopping centre, I wasnt really that impressed with the shopping. I too, only came home with a small amount from BKK, in fact, I would see something there and then say to myself, cheaper to get it in Bali.
Bangkok itself is more of an economic town, not so much a tourist destination, even though there are plenty of things for the tourist to do, I dont know, maybe Im too used to Bali, I just felt it was really hard to get around, finding food outlets was a task, I didnt feel like I could just walk into any restaurant off the street.
Then we went to Koh Samui for a week and whilst lovely, you could hire a car and drive around the region in a couple of hours, mind you, there were things to explore, as there are everywhere, but I just didnt feel as relaxed as in Bali, seeing as ive been to bali about 22 times, Im probably just a bit to entrenched in the place to WANT to go anywhere else. I feel safe there, I know whats what, I can get go anywhere and kind of know where I am. Yea I think I would probably need to go back to Thailand a few more times to get a really good feel for it.
Then again from the very first trip I ever made to Bali, I felt at home and never felt the way I felt about Thailand. Having said that, Thailand is a beautiful country with a lot to offer a holidayer, depends on what you want out of your holiday.
