I think that a treadle sewing machine is perfect. Quite a few people have them in their sheds at home handed down from their mums or grandmothers and just gathering dust. At the least the family can make their own clothes, if they have the skills they could start up a little business or they could probably sell it on for a reasonable amount. The machines dont rely on electricity to run so they are appropriate for a village and they last forever!
