I was there in December with my son and although I was a little more cautious this trip than previous trips (with regard to being out alone at night and allowing him out alone at night), we went everywhere we had previously and we felt safe 99% of the time. Sometimes in the heart of Kuta when we walked past the bombsite or we were scanned as we entered Matahari's we were reminded of what had occurred and how easily it can occur. However, these were fleeting thoughts. We normally go in April but decided we would go in December as Bali was struggling after the second bomb. We both (myself and my 14 year old) decided that we were not going to let terrorists dictate what we did with our lives and we were not going to stop living. We went we loved it and are going again in May.
