I'm originally from England and travelled to Bali a number of times on a British passport, before becoming naturalised and getting an Australian passport. Emiko has accompanied me on the last two trips [totalling 46 days] and travels on a Japanese passport, so presumably she would be classed as a Japanese tourist. This is incorrect as she has permanent Australian residential status.

We did get talking with a number of Japanese tourists [easy for Emiko!] and noticed that in general they probably spend more per day both on accomodation and various other commodities. And when it comes to bargaining they may not be as streetwise as the Aussies, although I'm sure that some of the younger ones do OK in this respect.

It would be very interesting to see an actual comparison on the total spending capacity of various types of visitor. We sometimes read that the "Americans and Europeans" are regarded as the big spenders, but are there any proven surveyed grounds for believing this?
