I am no expert, but the fresh water pearls have not been graded or sorted, so they vary in size and slightly in colour. I was confident I purchased real pearls but the vendor insisted on putting a match to them to demonstrate they do not melt or crack. If you are not confident perhaps this heat test will help. There is another test to rub them on your teeth, I think you can detect that they have a rougher surface than artificial pearls. Someone may know exactly what you are supposed to feel on your teeth.
