Day 5, an early start this morning, 5.30am, this being the day I beat the 'Towel Brigade' to the best sun lounges, and in particular the ones that will provide a bit of shade for the Family visiting us today.
Having made my selecting I place the two provided and two additional towels, purchased yesterday for this occasion, and proceed to the beach to collect sea shells for the GD, keeping a weary eye on my towels, sure enough along comes the towel brigade and following much mumbling and muttering, they move one to another group of sun lounges, BJC 1 - 'Sauerkraut's' nil! {;o)
Speaking of shells, the tides times during our visit meant there was a low tide first thing in the morning at the start and moving on to just after lunch at the end of the week, this was good for 'shelling'.
In that I had volunteered to collect shells for the GD, some to keep in a carved jewellery box that I had picked up at Hardys, others to stick on the front of a 'scrapbook', which I believe is all the rage but I don't know about these things, and to stick around a picture frame with a photo of her in Bali.
There are a vast array of shells that wash up at each high tide, and in the small beach area of about 500 meters either side in front of the Griya I was able to pick up a big pocket full each morning during my pre / post breakfast stroll.
These being mostly small flat ones, about the size of a fingernail, shaped like the 'Shell' Petrol Station shell, in the most vibrant colours of yellow, orange, pink, red and purple, along with the white, brown and patchwork ones.
A note of caution here, you will probably be required to 'declare' them when return home, you defiantly will in Aus, the flat ones are not such a bother but the conical and snail like ones are a concern, however if you make sure that they are empty, no little beasties living in them, and cleaned out then there should be no problems, the half a shoe box full I returned with were past by AQUIS without problems.
The Family arrived and after showing them around the hotel and grounds we went for a stroll up to the Sindhu / Sanur Beach Markets, pushing the GD in the pram, which previously would have been a nightmare, prior to all the work done on the beach front boardwalk, but now is just great.
I have discovered the perfect foil to the Stall Ladies, push a beautiful blond haired blue eyed 16 month old in a pram, no more 'where you from, you look my stall', but rather ' beautiful baby, what her name, how old?'
The only problem was that GD was getting hot in the pram so back for a swim prior to lunch, fortunately she just loves the water, the hard part is stopping her from swallowing too much of it, however she just loved floating around in the inflatable 'Seahorse' well it looked more like a Zebra with a pink body and flippers!
A beautiful lunch followed, after which GD had her nap supervised by the Gand's while Family went off to do a bit of shopping.
It was a magic day, and I think that the next time the Family wants a 'relaxing' holiday in Bali they will probably opt for Sanur, rather than the hustle and bustle of the 'West Coast'.
To be continued, regards BJC.
