back in June and just hired a driver for the whole day so we did sight seeing on the trip. Worked out well as we got transfers and a tour all in one package :)
This took us 5 hours but like I said we detoured from the direct route.
We stayed at Puri bagus, one of the more expensive in the area but its a wonderful hotel, small, water front, great rooms, great staff, great breakfasts and only a short walk into the main street of Candi Dasa. Will go back there in a heartbeat, nicest hotel I have stayed at and while not budget, its not badly priced at all. Plus its right at the end of the beach so you can walk over to the sand to where all the locals bathe in the evenings. we made some great friends and the kids are adorable.
I have also stayed at candi beach bungalows but that was a few years ago now. from what I remember, nice small, beachfront but a bit of a hike into town. (mind you I was a lot younger and tagging along behind my freaky walking parents who'd do k's every morning)
I Love the area, quieter than the more built up areas but still enough resturants and shops to break up the days (cant lie by the pool ALL the time now can we :) )
have fun whatever hotel you end up.
