I was worried about this and emailed AP Melbourne and they assured me that you were allowed a handbag or small camera bag and carryon luggage up to 7 kg of the allowable dimensions. Had no problems this end, but at Denpasar airport they weighed the carryon, that I had checked to be 7kg, and said it weighed 8 and 10 kgs and had to go with our other luggage that was overweight, but no weighed. As no cost was incurred I did not argue, but the carryon had valuable items that I would not send as luggage if give the option.
