I have been reading this forum for some time now and love it. I have been to Bali six times, going again on November 13. I have stayed at Mandira twice, Legian Beach Hotel twice, Tjamphuen in Ubud twice and at Rambutan Cottages in Lovina. Last time (in August) I stayed at Padma. Never again. I was reading the previous JBR re the single beds. The same thing happened to us and also our friends. On top of that we were right down the back and they were renovating the units next and ABOVE us. Same thing - your room will be ready tomorrow. Tomorrow never came. Every morning and night there were people at reception complaining about the same thing. We also received a free dinner (lucky enough to be there for Independence Day dinner) and the 2 wives also received a free massage. Did not make up for the renovations in the middle of the night. The had double booked so many people they were automatically booking them into other hotels - there was no choice. Padma itself is quite lovely if you like having breakfast with another 100 people. There is only 1 pool - nice as it is, with a swim up bar, but if you a little older (in your fifties) swimming with children is not always fun. On the other hand the Mandira is heaven for us a little older. Quieter, two pools - the infinity pool upstairs is beautiful. Outdoor type bathrooms are beautiful. Staff are much friendlier. Legian Beach Hotel not quite in the same class but also has 2 pools, and friendly staff and pools are open later. Tjamphuen - if you don't mind stairs - total tranquility.
This time we are going budget for a change and staying at Sue's Prince in Double Six then at Hidden Paradise Cottages at Amed. Can't wait!!
