It's been a year or two since we've been, but it's been our experience that anything smaller than a $50 is pretty much distained and virtually useless. Take some of those nice, big-headed Franklins for the best rates and the easiest go. Before we left, we were sure to get only crisp, new bills, as one year we tried to exchange a less than pristine, though hardly rumpled, $100 bill, and were turned down flat. It was a stray ink mark that threw them off. Given the condition of most of the rupiah that went thru our hands, this seemed pretty picky, but you are pretty much at their mercy. I gathered it had something to do with fear of conterfeit money. Whatever. TC's or nice new $100 bills are your best bet. Have fun. We're thinking of going again this next summer. I'd love to hear how your trip goes.
