I lived in Bali for 2 yeras after marrying a Balinese woman. I've had
babi guling at many places including Ibu Oka's which is across the street from the old palace of the Agung. The best babi guling ( roast pig) in my opinion and many Balinese is found in Gianyar, which is about 30 minutes east of Ubud. There is a small place across from the entrance to the Pasar ( market) called Melasti. They've been serving babi guling there for over 70 years. The place is usually packed, especially at lunch time. For about $2.50 you get a plate of rice with white meat, crunchy skin, pork rinds, sausage, well-cooked meat -like a jerky and lawar. Lawar is a spicy vegetable mix which I always order putih ( pooh tea ) which means white .... without BLOOD !!!
