may be a forumite called Ibu Saks who travelled to Bali many times and is married to a Balienese guy. She is about to have her second baby so her absence these few days on BTF is understandable and all us "cyber mums" are anxiously awaiting news.
I can recall my parents reactions when I would drag home from uni every radical on the campus. The long hair was always a contentious issue . Even my arguement that JC had long hair ( well according to the picture on the wall) he did. Some were too lazy - well every one was lazy if compared to my fathers work ethic & committment. As for differing political views - all my "cronies" at the time were conscientious objectors more to the involvement of the US & AUST in Vietnam War rather than to being drafted. My Dad was a proud WWII veteran and my outspoken views on conscription were so against his beliefs.
I just know they were there to pick up the pieces when I made poor choices and on occasion they had to.
I correspond by email with a wonderful young man from Bali and he's not after anything from me lol - my daughter & nieces are all spoken for and he's not after money - I pay him fairly when he drives me . If he were to fall in love with one of my girls (if they were single)or my friends girls I would be supportive as I believe him to be a good and honest young man. I guess its all the extras that we would have to consider - like would he adjust to life here or would she adjust to life there and be able to live on $30 to $50 per week.
As most will tell you Love is blind - you just be the faithful guide dog.
